| If you have a chance to check out any "Top Selling Bibles" lists put out by the Christian Booksellers of America, and other groups, you will usually find the "Life Application Bible" at or near the top. The Life Application format provides useful, practical application to daily living, scholarly insight into cultures and languages, and a wonderful cross-referencing system that unifies the entire Bible under its vital themes. The Life Application Bible is, in a sense, the best of everything. Although the individual books can be pricey, the Life Application Commentary volumes -- primarily New Testament -- are even a few steps above the commentary in the Bible. All the vital and necessary information is provided, and there is no ducking controversial issues and verses with the verse-by-verse analysis. I found the volume for ACTS to be the most insightful and helpful, since the narration in Acts can be confusing with a constant introduction of new characters and dozens of settings. The Life Application Commentary boils it down and makes it understandable and easy to track.
