Community Description For more than two decades, the Gaither Vocal Band stood as the flagship ensemble of the Gaither music empire. As perhaps the most important link between modern CCM and classic Southern gospel groups of the Stamps variety, Bill Gaither's quartet has produced more gospel singing stars than the Yardbirds produced virtuoso rock guitarists. Steve Green, Larnelle Harris, Michael English, and Jonathan Pierce are just a few of the major names that have passed through the ranks, and each has brought a distinctive contribution to the band's evolution.
Like country counterparts the Oak Ridge Boys (who themselves started out singing gospel), the GVB combines old-time close-harmony singing with modern production techniques to create a sound both contemporary and filled with nostalgia. The smooth sound of 1999's "I Heard It First on the Radio" encapsulates the essence of the group's appeal; it's a splendidly mellow performance that is at once passionate and comforting. "Singing with the Saints" is edgier, taking a cue from contemporary Nashville records by matching the quartet's trademark sound with honky-tonk piano, a rock backbeat, and twangy guitar licks. THE BEST OF GAITHER VOCAL BAND comes as advertised, collecting the finest moments of this groundbreaking ensemble in one convenient package.

Reviews - What do customers think about Very Best Of Gaither Vocal Band (GGS) (2 CD)?
We're fans. Mar 9, 2006
For those not particularly interested in gospel singing, this CD may not appeal to you. We do enjoy the Gaithers and have several DVDs and CDs in our collection. We have especially enjoyed David Phelps who is no longer with the group, and we do miss his high tenor stylings that just make you want to stand up and clap.
title says it ALL!!! Sep 7, 2005
Really is almsot "The BEST" and yes, there are a few cool tunes missing....."I'm Gonna Sing" and "On The Authority" are strangely missing, though I'm guessing thid disc is about the best VOCAL arrangments, and not the all-out most enjoyable tunes......but just about there , the bad parts stop....this is an amzing collection of songs!!!! "Second Fiddle" is just spectacular. 4 and a half stars!
Love This Album Aug 27, 2005
I have been listening to the vocal band for 10 years now and absolutely love the CD because it allows me to have all my favorites in one place and gives me a few new ones to listen to also. I aboslutely adore Guy and David and couldn't wait to buy this CD. Hope it brings joy to everyone else like it does me.
Gotta Be In Your Collection Aug 18, 2005
I tell ya, if you are a fan of gospel music you gotta have this CD in your collection. My wife and I have been to a Gaither Concert, seen "Jerusalem" and "Israel," and this CD puts it all together.
Wonderful harmony Apr 26, 2005
This 37-song, 2 CD collection contains fun, upbeat songs, traditional southern gospel, and lovely worship songs. You'll find classics written by Bill Gaither such as "He Touched Me" and "The King is Coming" (co-written with Gloria Gaither.) The most modern song on the collection is "Second Fiddle" written by David Phelps. The GVB has changed membership many times over the years, and you will hear from the likes of Mark Lowry, Michael English, Guy Penrod, David Phelps, Russ Taff, and the newest member, Marshall Hall. The vocal harmony is impeccable...especially heard on the acappella songs. One disclaimer: If you are looking for very early GVB material, it's not on this collection. Most of the songs are from the 1990's to the present.
