Reviews - What do customers think about Never Let You Go?
 | `We're all to blame for something.' Jun 9, 2010 |
The past seven years have been tough for Lexi Solomon: her sister was murdered; her husband deserted her; and she is struggling to make ends meet. Lexi has devoted her life to her daughter Molly. Lexi juggles two jobs and her friend and flatmate Gina helps care for Molly. Life wasn't easy, but Lexi was getting by. Surviving, but not thriving.
And then, things started changing. Some events and people from the past re-entered her life - and they cannot be ignored - especially when Molly is involved. In order to move into the future, Lexi needs to come to terms with the past and to accept the importance of forgiveness.
I liked many elements of the novel, but I found that a couple of elements didn't work particularly well for me. While the power of the paranormal or the suspense of the spiritual and supernatural adds a dimension to Lexi's journey, I didn't think that the story really needed it.
This novel is described as Christian/Suspense. It is both of those things, but the power of forgiveness and the themes of good versus evil are not exclusive to Christianity. Most of the characters in this novel are likeable human beings who like the rest of us sometimes make poor choices, and then have to live with the consequences. Or do they?

After reading Kiss and Burn, which Erin co-authored with Ted, I had to read Never Let You Go. The characters were well structured, the story line was not rushed, the social drama was riveting and the Biblical message was clear.
People have said that this book went too slow. Well, that is fine if you think that. Maybe Erin's wriing style isn't for you(: I,on the oher hand, liked how it progressed.
I loved Never Let You Go and would reccomend it to everyone. I'm considering re-reading it again which I most likely will :D And I will also be getting her next novel, "The Promises She Keeps", right when it gets released in January.
Good job, Erin! | | | | Never Let You Go Has a Semi Grip on reality Jun 7, 2010 |
It has been seven years since disaster struck her family; Lexi Solomon has held it all together since then- barely. But now Lexi is losing it. The husband who deserted her is back, her sister's murderer is up for parole and an old friend is demanding payment for debts she don't owe.**
Never Let You Go is the story of Lexi Solomon, trying to battle the past. One night while exiting the diner she works in, someone from her past shows up. His name is Warden and it is a fitting name and he begins to pester her about a payment that she owes. Actually, it is payment that she and husband owes since they both used to deal in drugs. Right now Lexi's only concern is Molly, who is the pawn in the midst of this complex, adrenaline rich plot.
The theme of the book seems to be that just because years have passed on, the past never forgets and only forgiveness eradicates the hatred which abounds in the heart of the evil one. Never Let You Go may let its grip slip on you occassionally if you aren't paying attention. If you love Ted Dekker's books, then you are familiar with the mind games and twists and turns of his novels. Well Erin Healy's writing seems to go in one direction, but soon you find yourself not only reading a thriller, but a supernatural thriller where people may not be people and everyone has something to hide in the "thin places" (as Healy calls those places between the real and unreal).
All in all this book receives four stars for its consistent dramatic irony which draws out the characters even more, the powerful theme which teaches a moral lesson while still providing good reading, and for creating its own genre of fiction.
Quote from the book: "You have the authority over them and not the other way around, he said. If you don't corral those guys and keep them in their place you won't be able to sort the lies from the truth anymore..."(Never Let You Go, p.90).

| | | | Hard to put down, gripping from the first page and a great tale of good vs. evil Jun 5, 2010 |
Never Let You Go was a very interesting book. I have started not reading what the book is about right before I read it so I can go into it with a vague idea, but not an overall idea. I would have read a synopsis when agreeing to review, but sometimes several weeks pass and I don't quite remember what the book is supposed to be about. I did that with Never Let You Go and I was continually surprised with the direction the book went. I think I expected more of a romantic suspense, and you do get that, but there is a lot more of a spiritual battle similar to Ted Dekker and Frank Peretti books. This didn't take away from the story at all - it really added to it. And it definitely added to the element of surprise. Every time I thought I had something figured out, it twisted and turned.
The characters were interesting. I liked Lexi, she was just trying to do what was best for her child, but like all of us, she's human and she was holding onto quite a few secrets and grudges. One of my favorite characters was Angelo, who was always in the right place at the right time and he had a sense of humor (and a magenta truck). The storyline with Grant, Lexi's missing, but not ex, husband added to the story and I liked learning about him.
Never Let You Go is full of flawed characters just trying to find their way in life. I think everyone can relate to one of the characters even if you haven't done exactly what they have done. We all have sin and we all need forgiveness and we all often need to forgive someone. I think that was the major take home message of this one. And the storyline that brings home this message was very interesting and well put together. As Ms. Healy's solo debut, I think she did a wonderful job and I look forward to her next book as well.
My Rating: 4.25/5.0 | | | | Great Read! Jun 1, 2010 |
If you're looking for some great fiction reading for your summer book list then you should definitely read this book!
Lexi is a single mother, working two jobs, and raising her nine year old daughter Molly. Years after her sister was murdered Lexi is faced with old demons. The man who killed her sister is up for parole and the husband that abandoned her and Molly has returned. Lexi's world is soon crashing in as she is faced with her past. She has to come to terms with knowing that in Christ all things are made new but her very real past sins have come to confront her.
The only other book I've read by this author was co-written by Ted Dekker. I wasn't sure how I would like Erin Healy's writing on it's own. I was pleasantly surprised. I was hooked by chapter 3 and couldn't put the book down. I wanted to keep reading until the end. | | | Write your own review about Never Let You Go
