| I love this movie. It makes you feel good about happy endings and love conquers all. Loved the actors and and the screenplay. Matthew MacFadyen was a perfect Darcy. Tall, dark and handsome. Keira Knightley is always beautiful. I enjoyed Donald Sutherland and Brenda Blethyn. They are fantastic as usual. Darcy is so difficult at the beginning that it was great watching him falling for her and how he made such a mess when he proposed. It was difficult to see him say all the wrong things and not be aware he was so insulting. Great ending. | | | | The Blu-ray version is better visually Apr 13, 2010 |
Wider screen compared to the original DVD version which is cropped. Visual detail is also better as one would expect from a blu-ray version.
As for comparison to the 1995 version, I love both, but there are people who claim the 1995 version is vastly superior. It seems most often that they love Colin Firth in his wet shirt which has nothing to do with the novel but it seems to incite some feminine imaginations. The BBC version is not without its faults, but the leads are very strong and the series/running time is longer and thus captures more of the Austen wit. The 2005 version's cast is uniformly stronger and being a movie, the production values are thus naturally stronger (better visually and musically). Judged on its own as a movie, the 2005 version is visually striking and its music score is worth a purchase on it's own merits.
