Reviews - What do customers think about Wordly Wise 3000: Book 5?
 | Can't vocabulary be taught without a political slant? Apr 29, 2008 |
The vocabulary is excellent, but neutral topics could have been chosen to demonstrate word usage.
Reading sections feature or self-consciously mention such people and topics as Maya Angelou, Bill Clinton, sexism at NASA, Rigoberta Menchu, Hopi Indian spirituality, Barry Goldwater - he collected Kachina dolls, who knew?, how learning and the arts stagnated during the Middle Ages, Costa Rican political history, global warming, and "Paul Robeson:All American."
If you like one-sided advancement of political views along with your vocabulary, go for it. I'm going to check out an earlier version, thanks.

| Real words for real students- a variety of meaningful activities for each unit, including a reading selection where learners can see the words in context. Being a teacher, I would have appreciated an answer sheet. | | | | THIS IS A GOOD INVESTMENT Mar 9, 2004 |
| This is a great book. I am in seventh grade and i find this book very easy to comprehend and read. The words are complex, yet some of them I was already familiar with. The only flaw in this book is the writing spaces. I find that ther is never enough room for me to write down a sentance or even copy one. Other than the space issue I find this book very useful, the way the lesson are seet up it is hard to every forget the words and the meanings. One setback is that all the lessons are a bit repitious. I find this book VERY useful and I recomend it to any teacher out there! | | | Write your own review about Wordly Wise 3000: Book 5
