Overview Growing up without a traditional family, Arcineh Bryant reaches out to friends to create her own kind of family, but when she finally meets a man she feels she could love, she begins having doubts about trusting the love of another.
Publishers Description
Beloved author Lori Wick presents a new standalone in the tradition of her bestselling "Sophie's Heart." After losing her parents, Arcineh Bryant lives with her grandfather as a girl. But growing up without her family causes her to hold resentment toward the man who took her in. Years later, when she meets a man she thinks she may love, she doubts whether she can trust her own heart. A character-rich journey leads Arcineh back to her grandfather's home where there are surprises, questions, and for the first time in her life, an answer to "who will love me forever?" This compelling story about a woman's hunger for acceptance and wholeness points the reader home to God's love.

Reviews - What do customers think about White Chocolate Moments?
 | White Chocolate Moments Mar 23, 2007 |
Good read, with Christian values. Characters are interesting and varied. Makes the reader stop and think about things that are really important. Generations can be close and you can fill that gap between them if you give your love away, and hold fast to family!
A joy to read and to share with someone you love! | | | | Wishing this book were better . . . Mar 16, 2007 |
To me, this book is a nonentity, although I would never say the same for the author, who I'm sure is delightful. But in terms of the book, I sadly agree with the Publishers Weekly Review above. I wish I didn't, since I know Lori Wick is a well-intentioned Christian with many well-meaning fans. But "White Chocolate Moments" is bland, the plot is bland, the thoughts are bland, the characters are bland. The book is "safe" and "predictable" rather than "alive." "White Chocolate Moments" seems contrived to convey cliched conceptions about reconciliation, rather than to simply breathe as a well-crafted, engaging story out of which the author's reconciliatory passions could naturally flow. I read more than 3/4 of it, and then decided not to finish.
I wish Lori Wick all the best (and I likely couldn't write a better book myself since I'm a fiction reader rather than a fiction writer), but in truth "White Chocolate Moments," is the sort of book that gives Christian fiction writers a bad name--for their sacrifice of craft and originality for the sake of "message." For well-crafted, fresh, evocative, contemporary, profound, diverse fiction that grapples with issues of faith and really makes you think and feel and question and dialogue and be in awe, you might scope out some of the fictional pieces/authors published in the "Image Journal," whose masthead is "Art, Faith, and Mystery." I doubt you'll agree with all the beliefs represented there (I don't), but they'll engage dialogue; and I can't guarantee the fiction published in "Image" will be "safe," but, then, neither is the world and neither were Jesus's life and message.
I believe Lori Wick and other Christian "pop fiction" authors are capable of better, and I'm sure Wick's future (and perhaps some of her past) books will be much more engaging. | | | | Sweet! Feb 18, 2007 |
White Chocolate Moments tells the story of young Arcineh Bryant and her grandfather, wealthy business owner, Sam Bryant.
Arcineh is eleven years old when she loses her parents in a traffic accident and moves in with her grandfather, Sam. She lives a life of privilege but is scarred from the loss of her parents. When her grandfather begins to play family favourites with his other grandchildren, Arcineh feels rejected and finally leaves in search of love and acceptance.
The first half of the novel describes Arcineh's childhood and provides the foundation for her later actions as an adult. The story moves along at a slow pace but picks up when Arcineh steps out to seek her own life and identity. While the outcome is predictable the different characters, especially Arcineh's new friend Jalaina and romantic interest Gage Sefton, pique interest in the ending.
If you enjoy a slow-paced, gentle romance Lori Wick's latest offering should not disappoint.
| | | | Good, but not her best... Jan 25, 2007 |
I adore Lori Wick's writing, but I do not think this is her best work. Having read all her books, I just felt that it was all done before (not in that it's a romance, or a typical format, but specifically what the book was about). I don't want to give anything away to someone who hasn't yet read the book, so I won't say anything specific, but I was mildly disappointed with it because of that one thing. Also, the editing had more mistakes than her typical books, so it felt a little rushed to me; like they were trying to get it to print more quickly than usual or something. However, it did not detract from the experience of the story.
Basically, it's still written by Lori Wick, which will always make it one of the top books in my opinion. I just would not recommend it as the first Lori Wick book to read if someone wants to get into her books. | | | Write your own review about White Chocolate Moments
