Item description for Hermie & Friends: A Common Caterpillar (Hermie And Friends #1) by Max Lucado, Don Knotts, Melissa Disney, Sam Mercurio, Wayne Powers & Demetre Gionis...
Overview So what's so bad about being a common caterpillar? Just ask Hermie-or his friend, Wormie-and they'll tell you. No splashy stripes. No stand-out spots. Not even a cool house like the snail or super-strength like the ant. Compared to the rest of God's beautiful creation, they just feel ordinary. Unimportant. A little out of place. But God sees past their plainness, and plans an incredible surprise to show them just how special they are. Featuring the voices of Tim Conway as Hermie and Don Knotts as Wormie, these caterpillars encounter a host of delightful characters and quickly wriggle their way into the hearts of young and old alike. But as the animation engages young minds, the truth of God's purpose and plan for His people touches their souls. It's a message of hope you'll want your kids to hear, and a fun-filled adventure that will keep them crawling back for more.

From Publishers Weekly Bestselling Christian author Lucado appears in the opening moments of this
animated video, introducing his most recent project, "A Just Like Jesus Story"
starring Hermie the caterpillar. Hermie, voiced by Tim Conway, laments the
fact that he is ordinary-not strong like an ant, beautiful like a ladybug or
resourceful like a snail. Each time he compares his shortcomings to the
seemingly superior attributes of another creature, Hermie prays to God, asking
about his predicament. The reply comes, "I'm not finished with you yet." Of
course, Hermie doesn't understand God's wisdom until he transforms into a
butterfly (as does his pal Wormie, voiced by Don Knotts). Lucado appears at
the story's end to explain that God does not necessarily "give us new wings,"
but he "gives us a new heart." Unfortunately, the message may be a bit muffled
for some young viewers who see Hermie accepting himself only after he's no
longer a caterpillar. Quality animation (paying homage to Antz and A Bug's
Life), music and voice talent buoy this effort. Ages 3-up. (Jan.) FYI:

 | Nephew Mar 10, 2007 |
| He loves these videos. They help him understand about himself and a little of about God. | | | | Timeless Truth for Kids (and their Parents) Feb 20, 2007 |
The introductory video in this delightful and growing children's series is destined to be a treasured favorite for years to come. Artful animation, likable characters and a clearly-told Christian message show kids how to put their faith into action (and challenge their parents too!)
Even non-Christians with a respect for God and a spiritual hunger will enjoy the timeless truths in these stories. As the subtitle indiates, this story focuses on being special. At some time or another, we all long to be different, and this story shows that every person is a person of great worth; and we are all in need of learning, growing and discovering more about our own uniqueness. | | | | Excellent Christian video! Aug 29, 2005 |
| This is a wonderful Christian video that teaches children to trust God and value themselves. The quality of the animation and the voice talents (Tim Conwya & Don Knotts) are incredible. This video is entertaining, fun, not annoying to parents, and teaches important lessons! A must have for any Christian family with small kids. | | | | What's So Special About Me? Jul 12, 2005 |
| Everyone needs to know how special they are to God. Don Knotts and Tim Conway use their talents as Hermie and Wormie who are 2 ordinary caterpillars. They ask God why they are so common and God keeps telling them, "I gave you a heart just like mine. I'm not finished with you yet." Their impatience to be special in their own eyes causes silly mishaps along the way. Once they become butterflies they see God's beautiful plan for their lives unfold. It teaches children about how special they are to God and to be patient because God isn't finished with them yet. | | | | Great Family Movie Apr 24, 2004 |
| Hermie the Caterpillar is a really good movie with funny characters, good animation and a moral lesson to be learned. Poor Hermie, who wants so badly to be someone, anyone, other than the special person he was created to be. Tim Conway is wonderful as the voice of Hermie and Don Knotts excels as the voice of Wormie, Hermie's just as common pal. Together they dream and scheme and worry and fret because they see themselves as too ordinary, all the time failing to understand that God isn't finished with them yet. Great for gently getting into kids hearts that THEY are special and God is continually working to make them into an even more beautiful person. Nothing preachy about this movie, but gives a powerful example of patience and love. | | | Write your own review about Hermie & Friends: A Common Caterpillar
