Reviews - What do customers think about NCV Revolve 2010-Complete New Testament-SC?
 | Youth Group Approved May 14, 2010 |
I chose to review Revolve because I am the wife of an Episcopal priest, I am a youth leader, and the mother of a 16-year old daughter. However once I got the Biblezine I wasn't sure I was qualified to really review this adequately. This is geared for teens and I obviously am no longer a teen. I did the only thing I knew to do, I enlisted the help of my youth group girls.
Amid much giggling and discussion it was agreed that this Biblezine is definitely something that their friends and classmates could benefit from. They liked the stories and the way it was laid out and they enjoyed taking the quizzes together. Do I think it would encourage them to actually "read" the bible sections or would they just read the articles? I would have to say I think that teens would just read the articles but since the articles also give reference to specific bible verses I do think that it could act as an empowering tool to help them defend their faith and maybe even in some way evangelize to others.
The girls aged 13-15, enjoyed the book and if by chance they may have gained some insight into some bible verses by taking some of the quizzes then I believe we may have found a way to begin their thirst for knowledge of the bible. It also provides them with another way to have a copy of the new testament in their possession I can't see anything negative with that.
I received Revolve from Thomas Nelson Publishing in exchange for an honest review | | | | Biblezine for Christian Girls Apr 24, 2010 |
Revolve 2010 is a timely product aimed at the tween - younger teenage Christian girl. This "Biblezine" is eye candy for girls with the familiar fashion magazine type of cover of beautiful, clear-faced, smiling teens, pops of color, a promise of quizzes, articles on real teens sharing real stories, celebrity articles and of course, the free music download promise.
What I found most attractive about this new testament Biblezine is that the layout was familiar, especially if I'm used to reading magazines like Teen Vogue or Seventeen. There is a lot of information, mainly because they have to include the whole new testament from Matthew to Revelations, but I really liked the colorful info. boxes, brightly colored headings, graphics, pictures and some kind of side story on every two-page spread. If was a nice visual rest from the text.
I think this Biblezine does a good job of reinforcing the role that Jesus can play in a teenager's life, and when teens have to think about WWJD (what would Jesus do?), Revolve 2010 is a nice source to find specific Bible-centered advice for many typical teen dramas and traumas. I also liked the book reviews as well as the information on organizations started by Christian teens.
Do I think this product is for older teens? No, but this is great for tweens and younger teens. Do I think this product will bring kids to Christianity? No, but I do think that this is a product for Christian tweens to reinforce their relationship with God by showing the scriptures in a modern light.
I was given this product by Thomas Nelson Publishing in exchange for an honest review. | | | | CTF Devourer gives this a 10! Apr 12, 2010 |
| I really enjoyed reading this. I surprised myself. I grew up, not only with a different translation, but with two copies of the same Bible. I'm one of those who can tell you what column on what side of the page a verse is on - I picture it in my mind. So I didn't think I'd enjoy reading a Bible that looked and sounded different. But it was very well done. The look and feel are catchy, definitely targeting teen girls. The text itself is easy to understand and relate to. I would definitely recommend this for teen girls! On a scale of 1-5 this gets a 10! :-) | | | | My teen liked Revolve 2010 Apr 10, 2010 |
One of our jobs as parents is to lead our children in the right direction. That includes all kinds of topics including when it comes to your religious and moral beliefs. That's why I introduced my 18-year-old daughter to Revolve 2010, NCV REVOLVE NEW TESTAMENT BIBLEZINE 2010.
Through my daughter I've learned that teenagers enjoy magazines and books that are colorful, engaging, artistic and full of design savvy articles, information and photographs. They also like quick reads that give them complete details in as little words as possible with the option to read more if they like. That's what Revolve 2010 offers.
This is the 6th edition and includes new sidebars and features while continuing to make the New Testament relevant to a teenage girl's life today. Here's a list of some of the current features:
* The truth about guys from Chad Eastham (featured speaker on Revolve Tour and author of The Truth About Guys) * Behind the scenes of The Word of Promise: The Next Generation, with stars Jordin Sparks, Cody Linley, and Corbin Bleu * Celeb Drama-Trauma * Q&A with Jenna Lucado * Quizzes aimed to increase self-awareness and point readers to Scripture * Free music downloads from Group1Crew, Stellar Kart, and Britt Nicole
Revolve 2010 is a book that teenage girls can read a few pages at a time each day or spend extended time studying. My daughter, who is somewhat picky about what she absorbs, has added this item to her current reading selections.
I received this book free from Thomas Nelson Publishers as part of their BookSneeze <> book review bloggers program. Although the make-up articles and other "girl material" doesn't directly apply to the scriptures it does offer the types of information young girls are looking for in a teen magazine including relevant biblical information. | | | | Relevant reading for teens Apr 9, 2010 |
Revolve 2010 is a Bible magazine for teen girls. It's a Bible in a magazine, simply put. It contains only the New Testament, translated in an easier to understand language, and there are little reflections and thoughts and other fun stuff littered around the issue. It's made to look like an actual magazine, but inside, there are little ads for products, and instead of full articles, all the books of the New Testament are there. It's a refreshing take on the New Testament -- none of the "thy", "thou" or any of the heavy and hard to understand Bible language. There was enough information on each of the New Testament books as an intro -- in a teen-friendly language, of course -- for them to understand the books better.
Since this is a girl magazine, there were also a lot of girly stuff inside -- things about friends, make-up, fashion, and even about guys. There were some interviews with some artists, and other real-life inspiring stories that a teenage girl could relate to. It's fun and relevant, although sometimes I wish that these little articles are connected more firmly to the Biblical message. Some of them just seem placed there out of the blue and not really connected, which could kind of disorient the reader while going through it.
What I really liked about Revolve is the little boxes that explain some of the verses, "interviews" with some of the Bible characters, and even blog entries! These were laid out in a modern way, taking on the design and familiarity of famous social networking sites and blogs to make it more relevant to the readers. I think that's a really great thing to help the teens identify more with the characters of the Bible in an easier way, rather than letting them just discover it for themselves.
I liked going through Revolve, and I think it would be a great gift for teens to get them started in reading the Bible. :) | | | Write your own review about NCV Revolve 2010-Complete New Testament-SC
