Item description for The Five Dysfunctions of a Team: A Leadership Fable (J-B Lencioni Series) by Patrick M. Lencioni...
Overview The author of The Five Temptations of a CEO presents a workplace fable on dysfunctional teamwork, citing the fictional example of CEO Kathryn Petersen, who identifies five "corruptions" that get in the way of her company's teamwork and how she implements action steps to overcome them. 100,000 first printing. $200,000 ad/promo.
Publishers Description In The Five Dysfunctions of a Team Patrick Lencioni once again offers a leadership fable that is as enthralling and instructive as his first two best-selling books, The Five Temptations of a CEO and The Four Obsessions of an Extraordinary Executive. This time, he turns his keen intellect and storytelling power to the fascinating, complex world of teams. Kathryn Petersen, Decision Tech's CEO, faces the ultimate leadership crisis: Uniting a team in such disarray that it threatens to bring down the entire company. Will she succeed? Will she be fired? Will the company fail? Lencioni's utterly gripping tale serves as a timeless reminder that leadership requires as much courage as it does insight. Throughout the story, Lencioni reveals the five dysfunctions which go to the very heart of why teams even the best ones-often struggle. He outlines a powerful model and actionable steps that can be used to overcome these common hurdles and build a cohesive, effective team. Just as with his other books, Lencioni has written a compelling fable with a powerful yet deceptively simple message for all those who strive to be exceptional team leaders. |

Reviews - What do customers think about The Five Dysfunctions of a Team: A Leadership Fable (J-B Lencioni Series)?
 | The Five Disfunctions of a Team: A Leadership Fable Mar 28, 2007 |
This is an amazing product. The book has so much to offer in terms of real leadership that I can't put it down after opening the first page. All that the book offers is immediately applicable at the next staff meeting and it produces positive results.
I was assigned the task of trying to find out why our team is not working in harmony and after reading this book, I had so many ideas how to motivate everyone, my boss was surprised. When I told him where all this came from, he bought himself the book and suggested that all staff must read it. In fact, he made it mandatory that staff produce a copy of the book with our next meeting.
Couldn't have made a better choice of improving my leadership skills.
Thank you. | | | | Engaging, Easy to Read Mar 20, 2007 |
| Lencioni's writing style--written in the context of a story--really made getting through this book very easy. The story was quite engaging, and the examples used were very realistic. I would recommend this book as an excellent tool for illustrating the typically difficult-to-articulate qualities of what a "team" is. The words and concepts of "team" and "teamwork" are so typically overused that the true components of what makes a great functional team are elusive at best. At just under 200 pages (plus interactive material, the material is easy to get through, and easy to retain. | | | | Gotta read Lencioni's book, The Five Dysfunctions of a Team Mar 16, 2007 |
| Excellent concise leadership resource on how to create and maintain a strong team. Mr. Lencioni's use of a fable to construct his point makes for enjoyable reading and listening. Many of these management resource books are so boring that it's hard to make it to the end. The CD and book versions are well worth your time. The title may lead you to think his premise only applies to poorly performing teams. However, I have used his theory as the foundation for teams I have lead. This was initally unsettling to the team members when you give them a book with "dysfunctional" in the title. Fortunately, the conceps are so basic and compeling that all those on the team rapidly embraced them and were willing incorporate them into daily team functions. Enjoy the fable and apply the concepts and you will be off and running with a successful team, no matter what business, organization or service industry. By the way, there is supplemental guidebook, "Overcoming the Five Dysfunctions of a Team: A Field Guide for Leaders, Managers, and Facilitators". | | | | The 5 Dysfunctions Feb 19, 2007 |
| This book is not revolutionary or revealing of any ancient chinese secrets. It does, however, help bring to mind some key prinicples that are lacking in today's business cultures. These key principles are values that should have been taught in the home, but instead are left to the workplace to instill. I rated this book 4 stars because I thought it showed accountability in poor decisions made by the new CEO and it also showed a willingness to go through an uncomfortable period to resolve the issues of the team, promote creativity, and foster accountability -- even when the outcome is not what she thought it would or should be. This book was a very quick read and provided talking points that foster open dialogue. | | | | The Five Dysfunctions of a Team: A Leadership Fable Feb 8, 2007 |
