We read this book for our book club. I found it easy reading, interesting, especially if you like historical fiction. The Author wove in many suprises and covered many facets of life.
I rated it a four because it is a little too "preachy" for the average reader and could be out of their comfort zone. Although this absolutely dipicts the way our pioneer ancestors felt with their deep felt faith. I plan on reading the other books in the series. This is the second book by Tracie Peterson that I have ever read, and thanks to this book, I'm hooked! I could barely put the book down, and am eager to start reading the next in this series.
If the reader likes historical fiction, especially that of pioneer and wagon train stories, this is the one to read.
It had more than its fair share of tragedy, however, so be prepared. But that was also the way of life on the trail, and many of our pioneering ancestors faced many hardships.
I like the way the chracters have been developed and interwoven, and I like the way Tracie has shown how God worked in all of their lives, through good and through bad.

| This was the first book by Tracie Peterson I have read. I was expecting a semi-sappy love story, like most romance novels. I really liked that this was a story about life and not just love. There were several tragic deaths throughout the book, but I didn't feel like Tracie put too much focus on them. It was sad, then you move on. I really liked this book, it was tragic story of a family, as far as romance it had enough to suit me, to prepare for the next book.
If you like this book also try the series by Liz Curtis Higgs, Thorn in my Heart and Fair is the Rose, those books are by far the best I have ever read
