 | Wonderful Mar 27, 2006 |
I enjoyed this fictional tale of King David and Bathsheba. Their love story was one for the ages. David, as God's chosen leader of the Isrealites, is painted in very human terms. We can understand his motivations as well as those of Bathsheba. Even though their love for each other was very real, the acts they committed to enable their love, caused them to sin.
Their betrayal had many unintended repercussions: her husband's death, her disownment from her family, their son's death. It really showed how one sin can cause the innocent to suffer.
Their story also allowed the reader to see that although they sinned, when they repented God forgave them and blessed them. Their story is one of love, redemption and hope. The Seek and Find section also offered additional insight into how reconciliation with God offers hope for all sinners. | | | | Powerful !!! Mar 6, 2006 |
This book opened my eyes to the devastating consequences of adultery and the impact it must have had on Bathsheba, something I never really thought of before reading this novel. Much of the teaching I have heard regarding the interaction between David and Bathsheba has been focused on David. This is the first book I have read that describes what Bathsheba must have felt and experienced. How she could have been treated by her family, the people in the King's palace, and by others in Jerusalem. Under the law, Bathsheba should have been stoned since she was an adulteress. People most likely despised her.
One of the things that caught me off guard in this book was how Francine Rivers portrayed Bathsheba & David knowing each other before the incident. How Bathsheba's grandfather and father were soldiers and close friends with David. Bathsheba, who was 8 years old when the book begins, had a crush on David. David even attends her wedding with Uriah. Although it is evident that when David witnesses Bathsheba taking a bath he does not realize who she is. Francine Rivers clearly takes creative license in including this in her book. It is something to ponder.
God's mercy and grace extended to both Bathsheba and David are wonderfully portrayed. That God would use an adulteress who was probably despised by her people in Jesus Christ's lineage shows that God is much less interested in the sins we commit (since everyone of us sins greatly against God), but much more interested in repentance.
I highly recommend this series. It helps one to understand some of the women in the bible who are typically over looked. The entire book series is very well written.

| This book is based on the romance between Bathsheba and King David, from the bible. It is full of emotion and just written fabulously. The emotion Francine Rivers puts in to the book is just so grabbing. In it, bathsheba is madly in love with David. She is so in love with him, that it hurts; and the way ms rivers describes that made me fall in love with David! Bathshebas story is all about Gods mercy and his neverending grace. Bathsheba and David commited a terrible sin, and had to pay for it dearly; bathshebas own family disowned her and she was spat upon is hatred, plus her first born son died and she had to watch her beloved love, david share his affection with dozens of other wives and concubines! Nevertheless, Bathsheba sought out God and raised her children to be great children of God. Gods mercy was spread upon both Bathsheba and David as they repented and got a taste of Gods love and tender mercy. A must read for any believer. | | | | Thumbs Up for Francine! Feb 10, 2004 |
| Unspoken is a poignant Biblical love story between Bathsheba & King David (one of the most beloved Biblical characters). This book gives you an insight of one of the most scandalous love affairs in Biblical history. Francine Rivers did a wonderful job of bringing their story to life with her gift of storytelling. This is the first book I've ever read by Francine Rivers, and it certainly won't be the last one either. | | | | a great series Mar 2, 2003 |
