Smith was suddenly and unexpectedly struck down by degenerative disc pain, a debilitating condition that rendered her almost paralyzed in excruciating daily back pain. | Encouragement from one still living with pain daily Oct 12, 2009 |
Roxanne Smith is a woman with a message that will resonate with thousands of people who live with daily chronic pain, feeling alone and isolated. In her book "Struck Down; But Not Destroyed" she shares her journey of the day-to-day struggles--and sometimes even joys--while learning live most of her life horizontally. She courageously remains hopeful and encouraging to others, even during her darkest moments. Her unwavering cheerful attitude shows her true faith than any healing could ever provide.
In "Struck Down; But Not Destroyed" author Roxanne Smith writes with an accomplished balance between sharing her own personal story and inspiring the reader to evaluate his or her own attitude and make adjustments if necessary. For example, she shares the conversation between her and dear friends who are part of a support group, unique heart-felt poetry, her psychiatrist's perspective on illness, and even a letter from her son. These personal gems make the book truly unique and open one's heart up to hear her message. It's a message you won't want to miss! | | | | Roxanne Smith Is An Awesome Author! May 2, 2009 |
| When I have a bit of pain be it physically, emotionally, or spiritually, it's my tendency to withdraw, to isolate, to shut down and close in. That may be typical for many, but how would you manage your life if you had accute chronic pain that would nearly drive you crazy 24 and 7?! Roxanne Smith gives hope for managing beyond isolation and shutting down. In her chronic pain, she is far from destroyed, and gives testimony to living an overcoming life in Christ. Bless you Roxanne for all you endure, and for writing to eloquently of authentic pain and awesome perseverance. You and your book are truly inspiring! | | | | Hope and strength for the suffering Mar 29, 2009 |
| This is the gripping story of a young Christian, who went from an active and energetic youth to a bed of suffering. Had it not been for the support of Christian friends and the foundation and encouragement of God's promises in Christ, she would have been destroyed. But our Lord has been faithful! When Roxanne was down on the rocks, Jesus was there to pick her up and to put her back on her feet. She shares her life story, so that you, too, can have hope. There is no burden too heavy for our Lord to carry! | | | | Hope When Life Seems Unbearable Feb 11, 2009 |
What if you pray for physical healing for 18 years and it doesn't happen?
This is an excellent book for anyone in pain of any kind, for anyone who knows anyone in pain of any kind, and for anyone who may have pain of any kind in the future. In other words, for all of us!
First, a disclaimer - I'm a friend of Roxanne Smith. She's an inspiration to me and I already knew most of her story of back pain, multiple surgeries, having to be a "horizontal woman" lying down all but about two hours a day. So it's a tribute to her writing that it kept me up reading way too late at night!
There are guidebooks for weddings, parenting, etc. Roxanne's is one of the few go-to books - especially from a Christian perspective - when one's life turns upside down and there's no physical healing in sight.
I saw a school assembly program once presented by people with various disabilities. One blond healthy young man introduced himself as the token TAB - "Temporarily Able-Bodied." Struck Down But Not Destroyed reminds me that we TABs are all just one accident away from needing Roxanne's book to keep from total despair.
Christian author & dramatist Nicole Johnson says, "We want to place our orders at the divine diner so we are assured of getting our suffering on the side. But we can't. What we can do is trust the King."
Roxanne writes authentically about the struggles and joys of trusting the King.
