Item description for Behold the King: A Study of Matthew by Stanley D. Toussaint...
Overview This insightful study of the first book of the New Testament is not simply a verse-by-verse commentary, but a careful study of the thematic purpose and flow of thought of Matthew. Bible students, teachers, and pastors will appreciate the historical-grammatical hermeneutic applied to the Greek text, but Greek proficiency is not required to benefit from this work. Toussaint's major contribution is developing and tracing through the Gospel the twin themes of Jesus the Messiah and God's kingdom program.

Reviews - What do customers think about Behold the King: A Study of Matthew?
 | Best Commentary Apr 5, 2006 |
| There are other commentaries such as the Davies in the ICC that are more technical, but none as expository and exegetical as this one. Dr. Toussaint is a great communicator and really expounds on the theme of Jesus as King throughout this book. If you could only have one commentary on Matthew, this is the one. Espeically useful is his outline of the Book of Matthew and also his translation of the Greek Text which is both accurate and yet reable. Also worthy is his dispensational perspective on key texts in Matthew's Gospel. | | | | A close study of Matthew's words, God's eternal kingdom, and Jesus' role as King of Jews and Christians Jan 13, 2006 |
Stanley D. Toussaint, a pastor of more than twenty years and a senior professor emeritus of Bible exposition, presents Behold the King: A Study of Matthew, a scrutiny of the gospel of Matthew that traces Matthew's thoughts about the foundation of Christianity. Though Behold the King draws historical and grammatical hermeneutic directly from the Greek text, fluency in Greek is not required for students and theologians to understand Toussaint's comments, ponderings, and interpretations. A close study of Matthew's words, God's eternal kingdom, and Jesus' role as King of Jews and Christians, Behold the King is study steeped in both scholarship and faith.
