Oh yeah, it is Rafe Noble, a two-time world champion bull rider and current king of the gold buckle. In just eight seconds his life was turned upside down, he lost his title, his best friend, and his career.
Katherine Breckenridge wanted to make a difference in life. When Katherine's mother passed away she took over the Breckenridge Foundation that founded Mercy Doctors in Mexico. Unfortunately, due to bad business deals the foundation was almost bankrupt and Katherine's grandfather refused to underwrite her for another quarter. Katherine's last hope to raise the needed funds was their annual fund raiser event held at the Breckenridge Hotel.
That night Rafe Noble and Katherine Breckenridge came crashing into each other's lives. Rafe a broken cowboy just trying to keep up with his press destroyed Katherine's annual fund raiser and her last chance to save Mercy Doctors.
Katherine seeks out Rafe at his family's ranch to make him pay for the money that was lost. But she instead ends up asking for his help to raise the funds needed for Mercy Doctors. What she did not expect is to find a broken man. If Rafe helped her it could possibly cost his life. Katherine reaches out to the wild bull rider, and in the end finds out more about herself.

If a book has Susan's name on it, I know I'm not going to be able to put it down. Whether she's writing about a missionary in Russia, Annie and Noah in Deep Haven, or the exploits of a Search and Rescue pilot in Alaska, I know I can expect mystery, intrigue, a few plot twists, a lot of romance and, of course, the message of God's redemption and restoration.
Reading Taming Rafe (book 2 in her Noble Legacy series) was no different. The story had me in its grip from the first page. Her descriptions of ranch life in Montana had me breathing the fresh air, and I felt every bone-jarring moment with Rafe in the bull-riding arena. Despite knowing that Susan's stories always have satisifying endings, I stayed up until midnight (again) to make sure that Rafe and Kat moved past their wounds and misunderstandings to get to their "happily ever after" ending.
I'll be impatiently waiting for the third book -Finding Stephanie - to come out in the fall of 2008.

| This book was great! It's the best Warren romance I've read yet (and I've read most of her stuff). Just like Reclaiming Nick, the first one in the Noble Legacy series, this one didn't hook me in right away like her stuff usually does, but boy was it worth hanging in there for! There are multiple story lines, action, intrigue, a beautiful portrayal of what love really is and a wonderful message about finding our true identity in God. Eight seconds is all it took to destroy the life of Rafe Noble, world champion bull rider. He was riding Pee Wee when he was tossed by the inappropriately named bull. Instead of tumbling to the ground he got caught on the horns. His best friend Manuel Rodriguez saved Rafe's life, but lost his own leaving behind a wife and young son.
Feeling guilt and unable to ride, Rafe is in New York to raise money for the Breckenridge Foundation whose president Katherine Breckenridge needs money to fund Mercy Doctors in Mexico. A bit drunk Rafe crashes into the hotel hosting the gala destroying the event and himself. He runs back to his family ranch in Montana to heal and escape the media, but it is Katherine's accusation that rips his gut. She decides to visit him on his family ranch to get him to help her raise money for her cause. As they fall in love, secrets involving her late bull riding daddy, her deceased sophisticated fundraising mom, and her mysterious missing Aunt surface.
The sequel to RECLAIMING NICK is a warm inspirational Noble Legacy contemporary romance. The lead couple is a wonderful pairing and the "romance" between an older couple adds depth to the strong story line, but it is little Carlos, in spite of a tiny appearance, who haunts the heroine and the reader. The return of the other two Noble siblings makes life on the ranch seem right for the audience. Although a late suspense involving embezzlement provide unnecessary suspense, readers will appreciate Susan May Warren's fine tale while considering ask not what God can do for you; ask what you can do for God.
