Reviews - What do customers think about Bonemans Daughters?
 | psychologically intense Dec 30, 2009 |
"There is just something about a Ted Dekker book. Whether it's the intense psychological challenges with which the man writes, or the thrill ride of suspense one can expect, or the spiritual context suffused through the plots for greater substance to the overall theme, there is just something about a Ted Dekker book that elicits a response in a reader of the book's worth - simply from his name alone. Here, Dekker offers a father who fights to rescue his daughter from a serial killer as the main plot. Yet, being Ted Dekker, he takes that one basic premise a step further. He creates an estranged relationship between father and daughter, where the father only discovers his daughter's worth following psychological torture by a terrorist who blames America for the death of his own children. Did this torture turn Ryan Evans into the Boneman? The FBI believes so, but Dekker never lets you know until the last possible moment, and then it becomes a matter of saving the daughter, Bethany. Is she destined to become Boneman's Daughter or the daughter of Ryan Evans? In true Dekker fashion, both paths call out to the reader to accept them as the truth."

| I really enjoy Dekker and this book was no disappointment. Some of Dekkers books have a dry spot in the middle where you can walk away and not feel bad. This book however was tough to put down. Boneman is a true villan and Ryan's compassion makes him a true hero. It wasn't until the end that I caught the Christian metaphors and imagery but even now after being done with it I am still breaking it down. I highly recommend this book for a solid thriller that will keep you turning the pages. | | | | This is a great book!! Dec 12, 2009 |
(I am Joshua's wife. My name is Sarah, and this is my review of Dekker's Boneman's Daughters)
This is one of the most interesting books I have read in a long time. Yes, of course the story is dark because it is about a man who kidnaps young women in hopes that he will find the perfect daughter. When they do not meet his expectations, he breaks their bones without tearing flesh.
Then one day, he goes after the wrong man's daughter.
Some reviews have said that this book has no redeeming qualities, but I beg to differ. Dekker has always done a good job of writing about good and evil. This book is no exception, and I think that the story has God woven into the pages in a very big way.
Yes, this book does have some language in it that some may be offended by (i.e. piss, hell, skank, whore). But, it did not offend me. So many times, I think Christians box themselves in without remembering that we live in a fallen world with people around us every day who are not Christians and use language that we may not.
Moreover, my feelings about this is that none of the characters are labeled as Christian, which tells us that yes, they will use language that we may not approve of. I personally feel like just because a Christian author may use cussing in his/her novels, it is not to say that they are saying cussing is right. Think about this for a moment. Jesus called the Pharisees Sons of Snakes. We have a similar term in the English language. That means that either Jesus sinned, which we know he didn't, or maybe, just maybe it means that sin is not always what we think it is.
I really enjoyed this book and believe it had a great message. I cannot say what that is, because then I would give away the ending. But, if I could tell you one thing about it, it would be that love has no bounds.
Dekker did a wonderful job on Boneman's Daughters! | | | | BoneMans Daughters Dec 4, 2009 |
| I have been a long-time fan of Ted Dekker. BoneMans Daughters was a big let down. The plot was scattered, the characters and relationships poorly developed and analogies were misleading. Comparisons between an earthly father and heavenly father were weak at best. Ryan was a weak, indecisive crybaby that encouraged murder for his teenage daughter. Profanity??? Where did that come from Ted??? | | | | Heart-stopping Thriller Nov 22, 2009 |
Seven young girls in Texas have lost their lives to a diabolic serial killer. Dubbed The Boneman by the media, he kidnaps girls and kills them by breaking their bones without breaking their skin. He seems to be able to steal girls and evade the police at will. The Boneman has taken a two-year break, but he's ready to start again.
Ryan Evans is a Navy intelligence officer. He is back in Texas from a tour in Iraq, where he is captured by the enemy and psychologically tortured. He is made to watch as a Muslim fanatic kills Iraqi children one by one by breaking their bones. Kalid tells Ryan that he can stop the torture anytime. All Ryan has to do is give his own wife and daughter's address so that they can be killed in place of the children. Ryan manages to withstand the torture and escape, only to have a subsequent breakdown.
The Navy sends him home to heal. Ryan wants to use the time to reestablish ties with his wife and even more, with his daughter Brittany. He has been absent for much of her life on overseas assignments. He is shocked when he returns to find that his wife is now in love with another man, and that Brittany has turned against him, believing that he has never put her needs first. They want no part of him in their lives.
Bad as this is, there is worse to come. Ryan wakes one day to find that the Boneman has taken a new victim, and that victim is Brittany. Desparate to find her before she is killed, he finds that the police have misinterpreted the evidence and believe that Ryan himself is the murderer. He is now fighting the clock to try and save Brittany on his own, while evading both Boneman and the police. Boneman seems to be ahead of Ryan at every turn, and holds the key by holding Brittany's life in his hands. Ryan is at his mercy, and must do whatever the Boneman wants to try to save his daughter.
The suspense in this book is mind-altering. The thought of a child being taken is a parent's worst nightmare, and if that kidnapping was done by a serial killer, it is beyond belief. Dekker has created a nightmare character in Boneman that will remain in the minds of readers for a very, very long time. This book is recommended for thriller and horror readers. | | | Write your own review about Bonemans Daughters
