Reviews - What do customers think about Kiss?
 | Thoroughly enjoyed it! Mar 6, 2009 |
Take a political thriller, add a mystery, mix with a thriller, combine it with a romance, some sci-fi, and blend it all with suspense and you get Kiss, the new novel by Ted Dekker and Erin Healy.
Kiss tells the story of Shauna McAllister, who wakes up from a coma and can't remember the last six months of her life. She's told that the man standing by her bed is her boyfriend, but she doesn't remember dating him. She's told she caused the accident that left her in the hospital and her brother in a vegetative state, but she can't recall what happened. And so, desperate for any details to fill in the missing pieces, Shauna begins searching for answers.
What she discovers is that her coma, her medications, or something more mysterious, has given her an odd new ability. And she quickly learns that this new ability can be the very thing she needs to find the keys to what caused her accident and who was behind it. The only problem is living long enough to put all the pieces together.
I enjoyed the plot of this novel, the non-stop action, and I especially liked the sci-fi twist of Shauna's newfound talent. I think all of the elements of this novel work well together to create a story that will have you on the edge of your seat until the final scene.
| | | | A Great Book by a Great Author Mar 5, 2009 |
I honestly don't know where to begin. It's a great book to be sure, but I'm not sure what I should w rite about first. I guess I'll start with the beginning.
Ted and Erin did an amazing job putting Shauna's memory loss together, and even better job finishing it up. The whole memory stealing ability was cool too. I really liked the fact that the pair (Ted and Erin) kept the readers on their toes till it was all over. It was fast-paced, mind-numbing, page turning action at its best. I think Ted nailed it with Kiss.
I'm mo re interested in Ted's thriller rather than mystery books, but I was shocked at how well he had put Kiss together. It was like being thrown off a boat into icy black water. I would definitely recommend this book to any and all Dekkies, without a doubt in my mind. The plot was what really took me by surprise. I'm writing a novel right now, but I would have never come up with a plot so complete and shockingly good as Ted Dekker's plot for Kiss.
The bottom line is this: Kiss is a must-have for any Dekker fan.
Elyon's Strength,
Caleb S. Goodhue | | | | How would you feel if you lost 6 months of your life? Mar 2, 2009 |
Shauna awoke after being in a coma for six weeks to a nightmare that she would like to forget. She had no idea why or how she ended up in the hospital. Actually, she couldn't remember the last 6 months. She knew who she was, who her brother Rudy was, her dad Landan, "Uncle" Trent, even her evil stepmother Patrice. However, she did not know Wayne Spade, the guy who claimed to be her boyfriend. How could she have forgotten him?
After Shauna is released from the hospital, Wayne offers to stay with her 24/7 to help her recuperate. He works for her Uncle Trent at her father's company, McAllister MediVista, so there isn't a problem with him getting some time off. She discovers that her brother Rudy is brain-damaged due to the accident that put her in the coma. The accident that they say she caused. She had been indicted while in the coma because they had found Ecstacy in her system, and in her car, and in her apartment. She couldn't EVER remember taking drugs in her life. How could this be happening to her?
Rudy had been her father's favorite ever since he had married Patrice. She had been left for Patrice to raise and Patrice was every bit the wicked stepmother - even burning Shauna with an iron. But did her father believe her? No. He believed Patrice when she told him that Shauna just wanted to be the center of attention. This drove a wedge between Shauna and her dad, which is why she now calls him Landon.
Soon, Shauna starts remembering things - but they don't seem to be her memories. Why is she remembering things that couldn't possibly have happened to her? And can she really trust Wayne or is he trying to kill her?
The underlying theme in Kiss is that God will always love you and you don't need to fear. (Shauna keeps remembering her deceased mom telling her this.) What Shauna wants more than anything is for Landon to feel this way about her. We also get to see some family and romantic relationships develop and some family and romantic relationships fall apart. You will have to read to find out whose!

The writing team of Ted Dekker and Erin Healy debuts with the suspenseful mystery novel Kiss. The story revolves around a woman named Shauna who has just woken up in a hospital bed unable to remember the recent events that led her there. As she attempts to put the pieces of the accident together, she finds that things--and people--are not always as they seem and that beneath the surface there is a web of events far more hidden and deceptive than she could have anticipated. Along with trying to figure out what someone wants her to forget, she discovers she has acquired an ability to see into the memories of others and has to determine whether this is a good thing or, instead, a curse.
While the beginning of Kiss can seem somewhat ambiguous at times, it is worth getting through to get to the second half of the book. As the action intensifies and we begin to question who we--and Shauna--should trust, the novel becomes the exciting, suspenseful, heartfelt journey with memorable characters that Dekker is known for, together with Healy's own input and style. For Dekker fans, this book, while slightly different from his normal style, will not disappoint, and for first-time readers of both authors: pick up this book for a mysterious ride filled with deceit, politics, scandal, and the unfaltering determination of the inspiring, good people who must trust in their faith to face it.

| ESP. Paranormal. What does that have to do with being a christian? Nothing. Just another way of getting the world of evil into a christians life and living a lie. God forbids such things. | | | Write your own review about Kiss
